Audit & Annual Report

2012 Annual Report

Dear Friends, Family and Funders:

Sometimes it gets complicated to explain who or what Central Detroit Christian CDC is. It’s a housing organization. No it’s a youth ministry. Wait a minute they develop businesses and employ people. Here’s an explanation I like—we are a patchwork of people doing all of that while loving God and loving people.

People surround us all the time and they are all so interesting with different stories at different stages in their life and growth, all

interconnected with CDC in some way or another. There’s Bryan and Eli, student leaders in high school; Keisa and Thomas and others involved in Saturday morning tutoring; Abu, Marvin, Keisha and Tracy making the sales with Liz at Peaches & Greens, Anthony, Dede, Nate and Carl cutting lawns with Craig and Higher Ground Landscaping, and then there’s parents and volunteers and staff and people getting housing counseling, and people getting into new homes and on and on… Whew! Letter from the Executive Director
Dear Friends:

So they will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified. Then they will rebuild the ancient ruins, they will repair the ruined cities, the desolationsof many generations. Isaiah 61:4

Like so much of nature, Oak Trees are remarkable. For example, there are over 600 species of Oak trees or shrubs. They can live in a variety of climates and are a very strong and sturdy tree. There’s actually an oak tree in South Carolina that spans 85 feet and they say is 1500 years old. The acorn which takes nearly 18 months to mature holds only one seedling. Oak wood has great strength and hardness and is quite resistant to fungus or insect attack. And, oak trees are a common symbol of strength and endurance. Well, science was not one of my better subjects in school, so I will stop with the lesson except to say I like oak trees and I want CDC to be like an oak tree, strong and enduring, and I want us to raise up Oaks of Righteousness in our community.
